Web Serial Console

The SiMa.ai Web Serial Console connects to SiMa.ai DevKits from a Chromium-based browser through the Web Serial API. No local installation is required. Open the tool in a compatible browser, plug in your DevKit via USB, and connect.

Launch Web Serial Console

Requirements

The Web Serial API is only available in Chromium-based browsers:

  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge
note

Firefox and Safari do not support the Web Serial API and cannot be used with this tool.

Linux: dialout group access

On Linux, serial devices such as /dev/ttyUSB0 are owned by root:dialout with mode crw-rw----. New user accounts are not in the dialout group by default, so the browser cannot open the device and your DevKit will not appear in the serial port picker — even though lsusb and dmesg show the USB to Serial adapter and /dev/ttyUSB0 exists.

Add your user to the dialout group:

sudo usermod -aG dialout $USER

Then log out and back in, or reboot — the group change does not apply to your current session. Verify with:

groups | grep dialout
note

This step applies to Linux only. macOS and Windows do not require it.

Getting Started

  1. Connect your SiMa.ai DevKit to your computer using a USB to Serial cable.
  2. Open the Web Serial Console in a supported browser.
  3. Click [+] New Connection in the command palette.
  4. Select the serial port corresponding to your DevKit from the browser pop-up and click Connect.
  5. The console detects the login prompt and logs in with the default credentials (sima/edgeai).

Interface
